Salmon sashimi

Salmon don

Spicy Chicken Karaage Ramen

Yakiniku don

Chicken Karaage Don

Dragon Mentai Roll

Avocado Spider Roll

I think the yakiniku donburi tasted better than Yoshinoya's - for me, the rice used was of better quality. Sushi Zanmai is opening soon in Kuching ....  :))

Magnum :))

Back at home when we browsed the F & B directory of IOI City Mall, I'd decided I wanted Magnum for dessert. Bro was indifferent, but Sil, too, was in favour.

Magnum Putrajaya, located at the centre court on the ground floor
There was a long after-dinner queue for the ice-craem

Each Magnum cost RM9.90, and one could choose a dip, 3 ingredients for the topping, and a drizzle; we opted for 2 chocolate and 1 vanilla Magnum. Then all of us chose the dark chocolate dip ...

(L) Pistachio, almond and hazelnuts, dark chocolate dip and white chocolate drizzle on chocolate ice-cream
(C) Pistachio, almond and hazelnuts, dark chocolate dip and dark chocolate drizzle on vanilla ice-cream
(R)Hazelnuts, chocolate crystals and oreos, dark chocolate dip and white chocolate drizzle on chocolate ice-cream

This is for me :))

Yummy :))
I was a happy person.

Fish & Co

We went to Fish & Co for dinner ... the outlet at IOI City Mall. My first time to this mall ... and I liked it here! I wish I could stay the longer so that I could shop here!

Grilled Salmon with Prawn Fritters, RM35.95

Grilled Peri-Peri Chicken & Arctic Fish, RM34.95

Seafood Platter for 2, RM65.95
Grilled prawns, white fish, grilled calamari, blue mussels in garlic lemon butter sauce, served with paella and chips

Add RM9.95 for a soup and drink ....

Thick mushroom soup

Passion Fruit drink

I enjoyed all the dishes ... quality wise, Fish & Co is better than Manhattan Fish Market - or does it depend on which outlet one goes to? Hmn .... I really do not know.

Gui Lin Restaurant @ Taman Connaught KL

The entire family is in KL .. and tonight's meal is treated by Dad. We went to Gui Lin Restaurant .... my second time. The last time, I was very impressed with the Chilli Crab. The sauce was really shiok and I looked forward to eating the dish again.

Tonight's crab was RM98.00 per kg .... and we ordered 2 pieces cooked in 2 different ways ....

Chilli crab (酸辣螃蟹)
The sauce was spicy and very flavourful, sweet and sour, and it was so good with rice!

Buttered crab
The butter sauce was rich and creamy, and a little spicy; not bad :))

Mixed vegetables

Tofu with angled gourd

Deep-fried calamari

The food was good! Thanks to Dad for the treat! :))

Day 5 : Chengdu

We checked out at 8.30 a.m., but left our bags with the hotel. We had a few places which we wanted to visit today. And the first stop was the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding.

It was easy to flag a taxi this monring .... and the journey took around 30 minute and cost RMB41.00. Entrance fee was RMB58.00 each. I'm glad we came here because looking at the cute pandas made me feel really happy.

Cute pandas

Love the flowers

This is called the Swan Lake .... and of course there were swans ...

Lots of these walkways flanked by bamboo shrubs ... I thought they were beautiful.

Then we went to the panda enclosures ...

Finally! My first time seeing a real panda. Cute!!

So cute :))

The babies just melted my heart ....

Next, we went to Wu Hou Shi and Jin Li Pedestrian Street. These 2 attractions were side by side. The cab ride from the Panda Base cost RMB70.00 and the drive was long! PE even fell asleep in the car. To go into Wu Hou Shi - which was a temple, we had to pay. So we did not go in and merely took photographs from outside. Jin Li was a street which had shops all along it and sold lots of stuff ...

Jin Li Pedestrian Street

Joining the crowd ....

For lunch, we had ...

Pineapple Honey Rice Pudding
Chopped pineapple infused in mushy glutinous rice; I did not like it.

Lotus Prawns
Crispy, but a little too floury was the batter for me .... some taste of prawns evident

A bridge inside Jin Li Pedestrian Street

What's in fashion now? The beansprout hair clip, of course.

2 girls sporting bean sprouts on their head ....

It's supposed to be trendy :P

After lunch, we took a cab to Kowloon Plaza. It cost us RMB14.00. This shopping mall has so many levels of shops!

Many levels of shops selling clothes and shoes and accessories ....

At the time we were there, the scarves were selling for RMB10.00 each. I bought 2 pieces. Winter fashion was prevalent now .... so the clothes were not really suitable to buy for our tropical weather. We spent many hours here anyway ..... and then looked for a place to eat.

Yang Chou Fried Rice .... yayy .... fluffy rice and fragrant egg .... nice

Hui Guo Rou Fried Rice
This tasted like the canned meat paste that we commonly eat

Yu Xiang Pork Slices ... this dish was not bad

Stir-fry vegetables ... not sure what veg is this but it was a tad bitter

Cold noodles
We asked for it without Sichuan peppercorns

Free soup

The meal cost RMB63.00; Then, it was a short walk back to our hotel ...

RMB12.00 for 2
Jasmine Green Tea Sundae from McDonald's

We left for the airport at 9.30 p.m. It took about 25 minutes to reach there from our hotel, and cost us RMB54.00; The check-in queue wasn't too long, and we had to have our existing boarding passes swapped. Our web check-ins were somehow not captured in the system .. and we had our seats swapped. Darn. Now I was sandwiched in the centre ..... luckily, I slept through the flight. We took off at 12.35 a.m. and landed at KLIA 2 at 4.35 a.m. I caught the first train at 5.40 a.m. ..... and reached home at 6.30 a.m. :P

Day 4 : Jiuzhaigou - Chengdu

Today, we woke up at 7.00 a.m. It was time to drive back to Chengdu today! We were sure looking forward to going back to the city!

We did not even go to the dining hall for breakfast. We did not bother to, knowing how yucky the food would be like. Instead, we had cup noodles and also shared a can of Eight Grains Porridge.

Eight Treasures Porridge
This was given to us by our tour mates - a group of 3 young boys from Beijing; it was a really nice gesture from them. :))
We liked this concoction of red beans, barley, millet and other ingredients; they weren't sweet at all.  Hmn ... I wonder if it's available in Malaysia because I wouldn't mind having this once in a while!

Once we are done with breakfast, we checked out from our creepy hotel and boarded our bus .... But meanwhile, here are some pictures of its grounds ...

We departed from our spooky hotel at 8.30 a.m., traveling on rugged mountainous roads.

On the road ....
It's going to be a long drive as we expect to arrive in Chengdu at 7.30 p.m.

Love the pine trees and the background of tall mountains :))

An hour later, we stopped for a toilet break. According to the guide, we were at 3405m above sea level .... and at this stop, the wind was strong and we were shivering cold.

Mountains all around us ...

Many of our tour mates bought meat skewers from this lady here ... our tour guide was apparently a regular here. He was seen to be helping the lady grill the meats. Each skewer cost RMB2.00. I did not eat any because I thought it was 牦牛 - that's Chinese for yak, although I do not know whether the animal is really a yak or just a furry species of a cow ....

Yak meat skewers a-grilling? The sign said so

Later on, in the bus, the tour guide told us that the meat was in fact, pork. How misleading ....

Rugged countryside ....

We had brunch early that day too. We stopped by here ...

There were snacks and Chinese medicinal herbs sold inside ...

The owner of the restaurant was apparently a successful entrepreneur; but he sold off his business after the 2008 Sichuan Earthquake. Now, he operated this small eatery. The produce comes from his garden ...

Fresh vegetables in the garden ....

And we all agree that this was the BEST meal in 2 days. The vegetables were all sweet, and freshly cooked ....

We loved the sweet pumpkin and the tomato-egg stir-fry

Shredded potatoes

Cabbage

Sausages

Tofu

Not sure what these are though ....

Soup

The next stop is at Song Zhou, where we visited the fort.

The visitor's centre

A huge statue at the fort

The entrance

On the fort itself

I wasn't much interested in the history .... so I merely soaked in the sights. It was a hot, sunny day ... and we walked along the fort under the sun to exit .... and got sunburnt.

We passed by Wenchuan, where the 2008 occurred ....

The clock on top of this building stopped when the earthquake occurred

2.28 p.m., 12 May 2008
It's been 7 years already.

We took a cab to our hotel from the outskirts of the city where we were dropped off. It was quite far. But this time, the taxi driver was courteous. He praised our Mandarin-speaking abilities too! We paid RMB70.00 for the fare.

The hotel that we had booked was a 2-stars hotel. My friends and I cringed thinking about how it would compare to Jiuzhai Paradise .....

The lobby looked promising

The room

We were staying at Han Ting Express Hotel Chunxi .... it was modern and very comfortable compared to our 2 nights at Jiuzhaigou. We were at a shopping district as all around us were malls. The receptionist recommended us to eat at an outlet called 澳洲肥牛 which was within walking distance from where we were.

It's a buffet hot pot meal, at RMB78.00 per pax. Basically, all the ingredients were plated and chilled .... and we could just take what we wanted to eat from the chiller. The ingredients were quite extensive too - there was beef, pork and lamb, seafood, offal, mushrooms, tofu, vegetables and so on. For the soup base, we ordered 4 different types - Sichuan hot and spicy pot, mushroom, herbal, and a hot and sour soup .... of the 4, we preferred the mushroom and herbal broth.

Round 1

Best meal in days ....

After dinner, we walked back to the hotel slowly ... it was already 10.30 p.m. I wanted my sleep :P

Entry @ 03.10.2026

I've been super busy with work lately - preparing 3 weeks' worth of worksheets for my colleagues, scheduling work visits, attending ...
