Day 2 : Amsterdam

2 hours before landing, we were served our second meal ....

There was fruit and yoghurt, omelette, juice, bread roll, butter, jam and tea.
I liked the yoghurt which I found to be pretty yummy. I did not like the thick and chunky omelette - I think there had to be a minimun of 3 whole eggs in there! Did not  finish it at all.

We landed right on schedule. We were now 6 hours behind Malaysia ... and it was 6 a.m. in the morning. Everyone was glad to get out of the plane and stretch.

The immigration process was breezy, and we then proceeded to the baggage hall. After everyone had collected their bags, we were given plenty of time to freshen up - wash our faces, brush our teeth, get ourselves organised. That was because our bus would only pick us up at 8.00 a.m. Well, supposedly. But since the bus was late, we had time to stroll around the airport.

Interesting display of part of an aircraft at the airport, nestled right against the shops. Plenty of shops and eateries there are too!

We waited for the bus for nearly an hour. But because of that, our tour manager threw in an extra itinerary to compensate for that lost time - a detour to Volendam. And so these were the places we visited on our second day ....

Zaanse Schans

Windmills in the distance

We watch a clog-making demonstration ....

Clogs were made from poplar wood, and nowadays, with the use of machines, a clog can be made within minutes ....

Colourful clogs on sale ....

Next was the cheese-making demonstration. After listening for about 10 minutes, we were given the opportunity to sample cheeses. They were really yummy, and I wished I could buy one home.

The cheese shop

So while the others were shopping, I ate ....

So smooth and creamy, but a little sweet, 1.75

Volendam
We had lunch here at Volendam ....

 Soup

 Fish and chips

 ice-cream

Well, the food wasn't that interesting, really. The fish was tasty .... but everything else was so-so.

 Outside the restaurant ....

Pretty colourful buildings

According to the tour manager, Volendam sells the cheapest souvenirs in the whole of Amsterdam ... and everyone quickly went shopping for souvenirs. Lol.

Canal Cruise
Well, we were booked to go on the cruise at 2 p.m. It was a hot day in Amsterdam .... us Asians do not like the sun .... so the boat was really hot and no one could concentrate.

Some scenes along the canal

Lovely, actually ...

InterContinental Amstel Amsterdam
Where the rich and famous congregate ......

We just could not wait for the one-hour long cruise to be over. Our jetty was just opposite the Heineken Museum.

How we wished we were able to go in for a cold drink there and then .... but the tour manager ushered us all into the bus and off we went to buy diamonds ....

Royal Coster Diamonds
Well, yeah ... the diamonds were really beautiful, but I wasn't buying anything. Not that I could afford to anyway.

Red Light District
No photography here lest you want your phone to be chucked into the canal .... but we did go around to look at the window prostitutes. Prostitution is legal in Amsterdam, and it was pretty intriguing to see the scantily clad ladies in the windows ....

Lovely canal that runs along the district

Dinner was at a Chinese restaurant here at the Red Light District ....

We found dinner to be ... meh .... the best-tasting dish was the piece of steamed pork patty. After dinner, we headed back to the hotel in Rotterdam ...

 Best Western Plus Rotterdam Airport
Guess the room was fine ... quite comfy and spacious, we couldn't wait to shower and sleep!
