I'm Not Here

I recently made a trip to KL after a 7-year hiatus. Unbelievable right? But it's not that I haven't traveled for the past 7 years. I have gone to Cambodia, Singapore, Shanghai and Taiwan for holidays, and it's just that I have not set foot in KL.

Well, my holidays have come and gone and I'm back in Miri. But the funny thing is I'm still there in KL. Not physically but mentally, and of course virtually. I find myself to be checking out mall directories, reading blogs of makan places in KL, browsing the low yat forums, checking out the Air Asia website for promotions. I find myself talking about KL to friends and family alike. Forgive me, if you get tired of my KL stories. I just can't help myself.

I guess the attraction of being amidst the bright lights of KL, the ever-so-humongous malls, and wide varieties of food has not worn off yet. KL-ites are just spoilt for choices, and that makes us East Malaysians seem so deprived.

Where can I go for a sushi meal in Miri? Haven't I been paying exorbitant prices for a meal at a mediocre Japenese restaurant, in which food I cannot authentically classify as Japanese?

Where can I purchase books in Miri? I only have Popular or Belle's to go to.

Where can I shop in Miri? I remember that once I went to a popular departmental store here, and the sight that greeted me was really shocking. For a moment, I thought I was having an obstacle race!

Was I to navigate an aisle so cluttered just to purchase a towel? In my humble opinion, this departmental store has no regard whatsoever for its customers. What all this mess denotes is shoddiness, discomfort, disrespect. I would be embarrassed to welcome anyone to my house if it were in such a mess. What more to say a public place such that of a departmental store?

So, I shan't be blamed for pining for KL. I'm already planning for my next trip. Hence, I shall stay away from the local malls as much as possible. Not that I'm missing anything, anyway.

Save as much as I can and shop till I drop the next time I'm in KL city.

  1. I fully agree with you! We in Miri don't have much choices as consumers. KL too expensive so I normally go to Kuching ;D

  2. Hi Terry ... yup, we are very deprived here. I need a new handbag .... but I can't seem to find one I like here ... There's only Parkson which seems decent to shop at ... sigh ... so where is the best place to shop in Kuching?
