Paper Flower

I walked into the school office, and there was this Indian man sitting at the sofa, waiting. Who was he? I thought, but of course, I was too polite to ask. When Boss came back to the office, this man seeked his permission to carry out a paper-cutting demonstration for the students.

He and Boss agreed upon the time - it would be done during the morning roll call the next day. Boss duly informed me since I was on duty that whole week. Mr. Prem Chand, he said, would be showing off his paper-cutting craft. I was to ensure that he kept to his allocated time of 10 minutes. Okie, no problem, I said to him. "What else do you need?" I asked. He needed a table, he said.

Indeed, Mr. Prem Chand came bright and early the following. "Good morning, you are early," I said to him. Such a humble man he was, and he said that he would sit outside the office and wait. He waited till we'd finished our formal roll call, and only then, he demonstrated his craft. He amused the students by using a few words and phrases in BM. All of us enjoyed the demonstration.

After the demonstration, he sold the paper kits to students and teachers. Each kit went on sale for RM5.00. Lots of people bought. It was for charity. The money would be going to the poor students in India.

For my effort in helping him, he gave me a paper lotus flower which he cut out during the demonstration.

Paper Lotus Flower

Pretty, isn't it? I love flowers, even if they are made of paper! ;p

Begedil

Begedil is essentially deep-fried potato cutlets that are coated with egg. I love them, I can't resist them, and so I usually get them from the local night market. 3 pieces usually sell for RM1.00 here.

Now that it's Ramadhan, it's pretty much easy to buy Begedil from the Ramadhan bazaars around the city.

Begedil

Most of the stalls make Begedil in the form of round, flat cutlets, but the other day, I came across a stall which made it into a ball. I think that they are really addictive, cause they are just so savoury and so tasty. I can polish off a few balls at one go. ;)) It's just that it's rather greasy, and often make me feel very guilty after that.

Smoke House

My colleague, J**** said that he and a few others usually hung out at Smoke House.

"Where?"

"Smoke House. Near Merdeka Mall," he said. "The barbecued pork rocks."

That was enough to interest me, and I interviewed him thoroughly. "Let's go on Friday," C***, another colleague said.

And so on Friday after work, we headed there for some booze and barbecue.

Smoke House
Dirt floor, folded tables and plastic chairs ... We arrived at 5.00 p.m. The young man had just started to light his charcoal barbecue pit and we had to wait about 40 minutes before he started cooking. So in the meantime ...

Cold beer
I love a cold beer once in a while .... The 3 of us finished 10 bottles. Not much, I suppose, but it is already MORE than what normally consume.

The STAR of the stall
The barbecued pork was yum ... fresh and well-marinated with a good charcoal flavour. Squeeze lime over the meat and enjoy it plain. Or one may choose to dunk the thick slices of meat in a chilli, garlic soy sauce.

Barbecued pork + cold beer = HEAVEN. Agree?

I thought the presentation was kinda nice too!
We polished off 3 plates!

Pork Burger
This is another must-try. The pork patty was homemade, thick and very flavourful with spices and seasoning.  The size had shrunk, though, according to my colleagues.

Take off the bun to see what's in there ....
A slice of cucumber, pork patty coated with sauce, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise. Yum.

Slowly, the crowd began to pour in. One thing with this place was that the service was rather slow. Our burgers were served like 40 minutes apart. The meats too took a long time to arrive. I suppose it was due to the amount of time it took to get the pork cooked in such a way that retained its moisture and flavour. "Slow food!" my colleague quipped.

Hmn ... not sure how much everything cost, but we paid RM113 before we left. The price was not important because I had enjoyed myself tremendously. I'd look forward to the next happy hour!

Potato Crisp

Hmn. Lunch had been horrid at the school canteen for the first 2 days of the week. It is Ramadhan. About a third of the school population is not eating.

Because of this, the school canteen does not really know how much to cook in order to cater to the eating population. On Monday, when I went for lunch, they ran out of rice. For lunch on Tuesday, there were only sardines and stir-fried beansprouts.

I get really nasty when I do not get a good lunch. It is after all my main meal of the day! "You are too cruel!!" I wailed at the canteen operator while trying to scoop out pitiful bits of sardine fish from a tray full of tomato gravy. "I'm hungry, you know!!!" I continued ranting at her.

"This is not ordinary sardine, ok. It's branded. King Cup. Everybody likes sardines," she said in defense.

"This is so very darn pathetic!!" I said, extremely annoyed with her.

So, feeling rather dissatisfied with lunch, my eyes started straying to the colourful packages on the counter.

"Is this nice?" I asked the canteen operator, pointing to some bright green square packets which stated "Potato Crisp". I decided to buy 2 packets, knowing that I'd be hungry later on in the day. At least I'd have something to snack on.

After my classes at 3 p.m., I ripped open a packet and found very thin round biscuits. They were crispy and yum, tasted of vegetables. I enjoyed the biscuits tremendously.

You know, when I think about it, I suppose the canteen operator probably did not have access to school data. She probably did not know that only a third of the school population was fasting. Hence, she did not know that she still had to prepare two-thirds of the amount that she usually cooked. Someone should have informed her that!

Poppy Leather Swing Hobo

For the past few years, I'd been purchasing and using Esprit handbags. I love the handbag designs and will often buy 2 pieces at one go. Sometimes, I'd get bargains and buy the handbags at half price. The problem with these handbags are that they aren't lasting. The faux leather gets torn over time. I'd spoilt 5 pieces to date. And those 5 pieces would roughly have cost me RM600 - RM700. Sigh.

With the last of my Espirt handbags spoilt, I'd been shopping around for a NEW handbag. A walk arond Parkson Departmental Store, however, did not yield anything. Although by then, I had decided on getting a leather handbag. Leather would be more durable.

Coach seemed like a good choice. Sil had a fawn coloured Kristin handbag which she'd used daily for about 2 years now, and it still looked as good as new. And so I started to pay a close attention to Coach.

After scrutinising the catalog for such a long time, I decided to get the Poppy Leather Swing Hobo in black and silver. 2 push lock pockets are on the outside. While inside, there's a zipped compartment and 2 multifunctional pockets. A detachable long leather strap allows crossbody wear.

It's a handy bag, very spacious and is suitable for every day use, and even for travelling. I love it and I can't wait to use it!! Oh, and this is my very first piece of Coach leatherware, purchased all the way from the USA!

I Sat For A Test

I actually sat for a test yesterday. The Cambridge Placement Test. How would I fare? Heck I have no idea. But you know what? It was actually quite difficult and I was unsure of my answers pretty much most of the time.

Well, all teachers teaching English in schools were asked to sit for the test. The purpose was to gauge the level of proficiency amongst the teachers. At least, that was what we were told. Other than that, no one really knows the hidden agenda behind this drive.

Anyway, us teachers, being unused to sitting for exams reacted in a myriad of ways. Some of my colleagues were nervous, others were defensive. Me? I think I was amused and I was also eager to find out how well I'd do.

So, for 30 minutes yesterday, I sat for the test online. The first few questions were easy peasy. Then came the more challenging ones. Sometimes I got distracted with all the noise around me and the antics of the people around me. So I suppose I was not fully concentrating my the task at hand.

How then can that be a true measure of my ability? Whatever it is, I am looking forward to knowing the results.

When? I asked Vice Boss.

"It will be published in The Star," he said, "You will be ranked according to your marks ...."

Yeah, right.

Soiled

Once you spoil your reputation,
it takes NEVER to redeem yourself,
because in people's minds,
you are forever SOILED,
no matter how HARD you try,
to convince them that you have CHANGED.

To The Hospital ...

I thought I was free this morning, and was looking forward to finish off some work in the office, when suddenly ....

"Teacher!!! GD is sick.... " the kiddies called me.

I rushed to the canteen, where GD was ... He was in the midst of eating his breakfast when he had a bout of asthma attack. I looked at his pale face and his laboured breathing, and sprung into action.

"To the hospital," I instructed. I got 2 of his classmates to help him to my car. He could hardly walk, trying to catch his breath. I quickly grabbed my stuff and ran to the car. I did not even have time to inform Boss. I'd have to send him a text message when I got to the hospital.

He sat in the front passenger seat, bent, breathing heavily and occasionally coughing up phlegm. "Hang in there," I told him from time to time, and tried to drive as fast as I dared, to the hospital. Unfortunately, traffic was heavy before 8.00 a.m. with officer commuters. The rain made the traffic worse, it seemed. Furthermore, there was road construction along the way. It was about 15 minutes later that we reached the hospital.

I drove straight to the A&E, and I was glad that it wasn't busy. GD was attended to immediately. They put him on the neb. "For how long?" I asked the attendant. Depends on the condition, he said. GD was in a bad shape when he arrived, I was told. And so, I sat waiting for him while he was administered the medicine. Only after that did we call his mother.

After the neb, we waited as the attendant checked him. We were then sent outside to wait for a doctor to check him. Finally, he was issued medicine, which we would have to collect at the pharmacy. By then, GD's mother had arrived but it was already 10.00 a.m. She thanked me profusely for bringing her son to the hospital. But actually, it is just part of my responsibility as a teacher.

My work was all delayed and undone, and I was thrown out of focus for the entire day, but of course, I was just glad that GD was alright in the end. I guess that is all that matters.

To The Universities...

This year, I have 16 out of 21 students eligible for the public universities. That's about 76% who has been granted entry. As a teacher, I am really over the moon about this.

The best student last year, however, scored only 3.75. His ambition, for such a long time, has been to read Law in UM. He's told me that it was his dream since he first went their years ago for a visit. Unfortunately for him, he was offered Law, not at UM but at UUM.  I know he must have been very disappointed. Nonetheless, I really pray that he will pursue this field, no matter where he studies it. This chap, has a lot of potential, a future politician in the making.

There is another brilliant boy, whose interest was in culinary arts, surprised all of us with his excellent results. He, who never studied at home (by his own admittance) nor did his homework, scored 3.58. He got offered mass communications at UKM, though I wish he'd gotten Law instead. "Law's my second choice," he said, when I asked him this morning.

I'm happy that another top scorer, with a 3.58 is on her way to do Economics as it is her favourite subject. 2 other girls are going to do Education at UPSI. These are to me, the best courses offered to the kiddies. The rest were rather obscure-sounding degrees at some obscure institutions like UMP and UMK.

School won't start till September, but I know that the kiddies anticipate it. I wish you all the best in your studies!

SunCity Food Court

We went to Tamu on a Sunday morning, and after that we went to SunCity Food Court for breakfast. Hmn ... somehow, it was not as crowded as it usually was. My friend thought that the crowd had dispersed, with so many new coffee shops emerging in town.

We had ...

Dim Sum
Quite tasty were the little dim sum dishes. We had Char Siu Pastry - the skin was salty and tasty while the filling was sweet and chunky; Stewed Intestines - sweet and tangy and salty, this dish was quite appetising; Century Egg dumplings - the filling was firm and yum; The stewed pork ribs was mildly flavoured with fermented black beans

For the mains, I ordered a Stir-fry Zaocai noodle
It was rather yum too ... the tangy zaocai and the fresh ingredients and the noodles were stir-fried with egg and dark soy sauce, it had a smoky flavour which was so vital to a stir-fry noodle dish ...

 Hmn ... I think I quite enjoyed breakfast ;))

OPI NLB86 Shorts Story

Hmn ... I wanted a pink colour on my toenails, and somehow, I can never seem to get the right shade. This shade of pink is called Shorts Story and it's a bright candy pink from the OPI Bright Pair Collection.

Pic Source : http://www.online4less.com.au/shorts-story

And on my toe nails, it looks like this .... I don't like it most of the time .... So I'm going to get them removed very soon ...

Just give it 2 weeks ....

Popiah

I'd almost forgotten this popiah from outside of Tham's Cafe at Centrepoint. Last time, my friend S**** who works nearby always helps me to buy on Fridays. But since she's transferred, I'd not eaten these delicous popiah.

Today I happened to be at the bookstore, helping my kiddies to buy some books, and when I came out, I saw these popiah. How could I resist?

These popiah were as good as I remember them. Filled with shredded jicama and carrots, diced tofu and long beans, and a sweet peanut sauce, these popiah were really yum ... I can't wait till next Friday to buy them again ....

The Corn Story

The other day my colleague asked me whether I was interested to buy corn. What corn? I asked. He was planting corn on a piece of land which he leased, and they would be harvesting soon. So he was asking whether my other colleagues and I would want to buy.

Of course. I love corn. So I ordered 6 ears of Jagung Ligo and just one piece of Jagung Pulut. Today, the corns have finally ripened. Yeah ...

The pale cob is Jagung Pulut - it's tender and sweeter, while the yellow ones are Jagung Ligo which were pretty much tasteless unfortunately ...

In three months' time, there would be another harvest ....... Jagung Taiwan this time, he said ... well, I sure hope it's going to be yummier than those Ligo ones ...

Little India Food Village

We went to Little India Food Village at Permyjaya and had these ...

Thosai .. don't ask me what the dippings were cause I don't know ...

 Deep-fried bittergourd

Vegetable selection : long beans, ladies' fingers, deep-fried bittergourd and spinach

Fish head curry ... sour and full of flavour ... very nice except that I wish there's more meat ...

Mutton curry
Tender chunks of spiced meat in curry sauce ... yum ... I like ...

Briyani rice ... and a bit of thosai on banana leaf

Hmn ... the staff actually hopped over to this outlet from the Banana Leaf Restaurant in town ... but somehow, I think food was much nicer when they were there ......

The Spring Onion Story

Every once in a while, I'd crave instant noodles. I know it isn't very healthy as it is laden with MSG. Plus, its carbohydrates content is way too high for a person who's watching her diet like me. So, I'd try to put aside that craving and opt for something healthier.

The other day, I was buying some spring onions at the supermarket, and a lady walked past me and she commented, "That's very nice with Maggi Mee." She was referring to the spring onions I was holding in my hand. I smiled and nodded politely at her, and decided to purchase those greens. After that, her comment stayed in my head for several days.

Finally, today, I decided that I had enough imagining a good old bowl of instant noodles. I wanted to eat it. Now. This evening.

Maggi Mee Curry with minced pork and an egg, and a generous amount of chopped spring onions.

As unhealthy as it is, instant noodles is also comfort food that warms up my stomach at an instant. After work, it seems the easiest thing to cook, especially when there are ready ingredients in the fridge. I like some meat, eggs and veggies in my noodles, and it is a yum and quick one-pot meal, actually

Cheat's Dinner

All instant food, but it was a great combination and I had a rather simple but enjoyable dinner. Whether it is healthy or not is another matter. ;p

I had ...

Campbell's Instant Cream of Mushroom. I turned the soup more interesting by adding some chopped fresh spring onions and a dash of pepper. Indeed, it made the soup tastier too.

The bread was from Seed's. It's called Cheesy Mushroom and sold for RM3.80. I warmed up the bread in the toaster, and the result was a very crusty bread which was flavoured with herbs. It tasted yum when dunked in the soup.

I pan-fried the 2 sausages to go with the soup and the bread. This was Marina's Chicken Frankfurter with Cheese, recommended to me by S****. The sausages were rather huge and felt compact. And the cheese actually oozed out of the sausage when you cut or bit it. Unfortunately, the cheese tasted rather artificial to me ...

Marina's

But once you get accustomed to the taste, it was actually quite alright. So all that junk eaten made me feel a bit guilty .... and so to make up for it, I assembled a fruit bowl ...

Hmn ... the grapes were really sweet ... but the kiwi fruit was the tastiest among the four - soft, sweet yet a little tart and with a very distinctive flavour. Yum ... the apples were crunchy and the navel oranges were very refreshing.

Well, I guess this is for me, a no-sweat dinner after a long day at work ...

What's Angst Got To Do With It?

I was feeling rather upset the whole day because of a certain fellow. It made me darn restless, so right in the middle of the afternoon when I was not supposed to be eating anything, I whipped up a fried rice. And this has got to be the most instant fried rice that I'd cooked ....

It took a bellyful of angst to produce these ....

Just chop the spring onions, heat up the wok, pour in the oil, crack the eggs, dump in the rice and spring onions and meats, and stir-fry to combine. Finally season with light soy and pepper. It took me only 20 minutes to prepare, cook and wash up.

But unfortunately, I did not feel better after that .... and was looking for another avenue to expend all that angst ...

Laksa @ Fisherman Kitchen

"No prawns??" Hmn ... it's kind of strange to find no prawns in laksa.

At Fisherman Kitchen at Luak, Laksa Special comes with fishballs, fish cake slies, and fish slices. Nevermind that, I found the gravy too diluted. Too bad, because otherwise, I'd have enjoyed the laksa sans the prawns.

Laksa Special, RM8.00

"Will you order this again the next time?" L*** asked me.

Well, that is a good measure for food. My answer was a flat NO.

Actually, I had rather enjoyed the fishballs. They tasted very fresh and very springy. My friends too liked them. So we asked whether they sold them. "RM40.00 per kg," the Lady Boss told us. L*** bought 250g for RM10.00.

On a side note, I'd always think the name of the shop is ungrammatical. They've forgotten the apostrophe. Shouldn't it be Fisherman's Kitchen instead?

Lunch @ Food Stop

My friends and I had lunch at Food Stop, Merdeka Mall after work. I patronised the Masakan Padang Ala Indonesian stall and assembled a platter for myself.

It was lunch time, and there was a long queue at the food counter. While lining up, I scanned the dishes to decide what I wanted. Among those that interested me was a creamy butter chicken, and a palm shoots curry, and the stir-fried ferns in sambal ...

But in the end, I had none of those. Instead, I had a tempeh and anchovies sambal, stir-fried bittergourd, and a deep-fried kembung fish. I drenched my rice with chicken curry gravy ...

The fish was nice ... sweet and fresh and crispy.

I enjoyed the tempeh and anchovies sambal as well ...

The curry gravy did not seem to be tasty, perhaps a little bit too bland. I paid RM8.00 for my platter. The fish itself cost RM4.00.

Lunch and gossip and after that grocery shopping to end the week. TGIF!

Hokkaido Cupcake

Not sure if this cupcake really exists in Hokkaido. But I read somewhere that this cupcake was the hottest selling bakery item in Taiwan a couple of years back. It's a cupcake filled with cream. In fact, one could fill the cake with any cream that one fancies, i.e. custard cream, cream cheese, anything at all!

So recently, when I was just browsing at Seed's, I chanced upon some in the fridge. I had to buy some.

Hokkaido Cupcake, 2 pieces for RM5.00

At Seed's the texture of the cake is rather heavy, somewhat like butter cake, and it is filled with whipped cream. Because of that, I did not enjoy it that much. It's supposed to be soft and light and fluffly and airy. Hmn .....  I liked the square shape, though. It felt different from the usual rounded cupcakes.

DPM: Form 6 to be rebranded to raise image

YOGYAKARTA: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said Form Six education would undergo rebranding to raise its image by being in tune with pre-university education like at the matriculation colleges and science foundation centres.

The deputy prime minister said among the measures to be taken would be to separate the Sixth Form students from the normal schools and placing them in special studies centres.

"We are thinking of bringing together the Form Six students but wearing a different uniform, and having a different time-table for lessons and different teachers in a slightly different category (from the normal schools)," he told Malaysian journalists, here, Thursday.

Muhyiddin, who is also Education Minister, is here since Wednesday to attend the Asean Education Ministers Meeting and related meetings, which ended Thursday.

He said, in realising the proposal, Form Six students needed to be placed together in special centres as they were now scattered about throughout the country, studying in one or two classrooms in certain schools.

This year, there are 83,000 Form Six students and 26,000 matriculation students nationwide.

He said the move to separate Form Six students from the other students of normal day schools was also in line with their position as pre-university students.

Currently, the general view of Form Six is that it is a continuation from Form Five, whereas Form Six students are in a different category and more mature in their thinking.

Muhyiddin said rebranding was needed to show that Form Six was actually pre-university education that was comparative to the ministry's matriculation colleges and science foundation centres of the local public universities.

Public perception today is that matriculation college education is better than Form Six while the entry qualifications into public universities are the same for Form Six students.

Muhyiddin said the public should not see matriculation as being better than Form Six as there had been times when Form Six students performed more brilliantly than matriculation students.

Therefore, those who passed the SPM exam should also view Form Six as one of the best choices for pre-university education, he said.

Muhyiddin also said that changes to Form Six education started this year by introducing a three-semester system but comparatively, matriculation students finished their studies six months earlier.

Asked whether Form Six would be shortened by six months to make the study duration the same with matriculation, he said the ministry would study it.

Muhyiddin then left for Bali to continue his six-day visit to Indonesia since July 3 in enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation in various fields between Malaysia and Indonesia.

The deputy prime minister also took the opportunity to hold a discussion with Indonesia's Vice-President Boediono on bilateral issues between the two countries, especially on labour, maritime border problems and culture. - Bernama

He's said it. And I filled out my particulars today. It looks like I'm finally getting transferred out. If it all comes to pass.

Dinner @ Sanga Japanese Restaurant

"Where shall we go for dinner?" W** asked.

"Erm," I replied.

But then we ended up at Sanga Japanese Restaurant at Pelita Commercial Centre. Hmn. It's my second time here, and it really confirms the fact that the food here is ordinary yet VERY expensive. The four of us ate more than RM100 worth of food and yet, it did not make us feel full.

Dinner included ...

Hiyashi Wakame, RM6.00

Salmon Sashimi, RM20.00
This is the only thing I enjoyed ....

Edamame, RM5.00

Gunkan Set, RM22.00
The rice in the Gunkan was not nice ....  pretty tasteless if you asked me

Kimchi Fried Rice, RM15.00 per set
Gosh ... it's a pretty small plate and for RM15.00, I think it's daylight robbery ....  it did not help that it was served with a bowl of miso soup and 2 slices of watermelon ... it was still darn expensive

Ika Karaage, RM8.00
Deep-fried squids ... My friend did not like the batter, but I thought it was overall quite yum.

Kimchi Soup, RM10.00
Not spicy, not tangy, no taste of Kimchi at all ...

Salmon Head, RM12.00
Nice, but no meat ... skinny head this was ... lols ...

We got a shock when we received the bill ... and it made us scrutinize the docket. It turned out that the first four items were not ours, and we were refunded RM33.00.

"I'm still hungry," D**** said. Lols. Poor thingy .... so we went to get desserts at our favourite shop, Dessert Master @ Boulevard Commercial Centre.

Okie. I don't think I'd like to come back here anymore. At least not that soon.

Yummy Bakes @ Seed Pastry House

There is a bakery at Boulevard Commercial Centre which sells very yummy breads. Its name? Seed Bakery. It is located next to Maybank. Its name is Seed Pastry House.  W** likes to come here. M*** says the bread is yum. L*** would drive all the way from Riam, just to buy the bread from here. It opened some time last year, and have since then, constantly come up with new varieties of buns and bread.

Today, I bought ....

Hokkaido Puffs ....
6 pieces for RM5.00
The puffs were tastier than I thought! The pastry was plain and light and unsweetened. It is filled with sweet vanilla cream. I liked to eat the puffs cold as the cream tasted really refreshing when cold - somewhat like ice-cream. ;p

Chocolate & Banana bun, RM1.80
I thought the shape was rather interesting, and since I liked both of the ingredients used - chocolate and banana, I bought this bread. Well, inside was a spiral cavity, which had bits of mashed sweet and sourish banana and a thin layer of chocolate. I enjoyed this sweet treat.

Cheesy Mushroom, RM3.80
This is crusty, cheesy, with lots of shiitake mushrooms embedded in there. It was slightly spicy and lightly flavoured with Italian herbs. This would go great with a hot bowl of thick mushroom soup.

Well, well. This is a great place to buy yummy bread, baked fresh daily. The cashiers are always friendly and polite and ready to serve customers. And best of all, it gives the other bakeries a run for their money!

Missing Home ....

I suddenly recalled this dish that Mom always cooked for Grandma at home, and since I had all the ready ingredients in the fridge, I decided to cook it for dinner.

Stir-fry baby corn with egg tofu, minced pork and mushrooms

First, pan-fry the egg tofu till browned, then stir-fry minced pork and chopped Shiitake mushrooms with garlic and shallot, add in the baby corn, a bit of water and the seasoning. The seasoning is made up of oyster sauce, light soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, Shao Tsing wine and malt vinegar. When cooked, thicken with a bit of starch. Serve hot with steamed rice.

Eating this dish reminded very much of home .... counting days till I can go home ...

Musang King Pancake

Musang King is the name of a revered variety of durian, known for its mustard yellow coloured flesh, and its rich, creamy taste that lingers in one's mouth long after the durian is savoured. Musang King is thus gourmet durian. Just last week, L*** told me that she'd bought a small fruit for herself - at a whopping price of RM45.00. Expensive, she said. But well worth it.

Today, S**** and I dropped by for afternoon tea at Dessert Master @ Boulevard Commercial Centre. And we saw this Musang King Pancake. We knew we had to try it.

Musang King Pancake @ RM6.90

What it looks like inside ...
A thin layer of soft pastry, filled with whipped cream and a thin layer of Musang King durian. As soon as I sliced the pancake, however, I caught a whiff of the very strong scent of good quality durian.

Cut up and ready to be eaten
"To die for," S**** said as soon as she tasted a piece. Well, it was really tasty indeed, but I mean only if you are a durian lover. ;p It was to me, a sweet, rich, creamy caramel-banana-onion-buttery concoction. Yummmmm ....

Together with the pancake, we had ...

Deep-fried chicken wings, RM5.90
Hmn ... the wings were really puny, but they were well-marinated and deep-fried to a crispy perfection. Nice to nibble on.

 Deep-fried Yam Cake, RM0.70
A bit oily, but it tasted nice when dunked into chilli sauce. S**** reckoned it'd taste even better if it was heated up.

 Mango Sago, RM5.90
It's my first time eating this, and I quite liked the mango cubes, and the ice-cream.

Hmn. I wasn't supposed to eat in the afternoon .... there goes the diet. Again. ;p

Revisiting Miri

I went back to Miri for the first time in 7 years and 10 months.  Miri Waterfront I left Miri in 2014, and years have passed in a blink of a...
