Family Dinner @ Sushi Zanmai

We were supposed to eat Korean food that evening. But it was raining and rather inconvenient to go to Daorae at Sri Petaling. Daorae was located on the first floor of a shoplot ... and to get from the car to the restaurant in the rain with Berry and his stroller and all would be challenging.

So we decided to head out to Midvalley City ... where we could drive right to the basement parking and be sheltered from the rain.

It was about 6.30 p.m. Dinner time. And there was a long queue in front of the restaurant at the top floor of The Gardens. Sil and I queued for quite long. 20 minutes at least before we secured a table!

We had ...

Gari or pickled ginger.
The restaurant did not give out Gari and we had ask for it. Traditionally, Gari is eaten in between sushi to clean the palate.  At Sushi Zanmai, the Gari was pale in colour instead of the usual pink.

Seafood Salad with Sushi Zanmai Dressing, RM13.80
I liked the fresh and crisp vegetables and the assorted seafood in the salad. Mom liked the creamy dressing. I think she would emulate it soon ... lols .... But frankly, I could not really decipher the taste of the dressing...

Caterpillar Roll, RM13.80
This is the house roll  and I thought it was so beautifully made. There's unagi, tamago and avocado. Yummy to look at ... and yummy to eat.

 Dai Dai Roll, RM12.80
This is a spicy crabmeat roll topped with salmon and shrimp roe. So pretty .... and delicious too.

Assorted Sushi
Tamago Mentai (RM2.80 per set) - thin egg omelette roasted with cod roe ... this was very tasty. I liked it lots.
Ebi Tempura (RM4.80 per set) - deep-fried prawns
Chuka Lidako (RM3.80 per set) - seasoned baby octopus .... Bro's fav ... lol

 Soft Shell Crab Temaki
I enjoyed the temaki a lot ... yummy ....

 Yakiniku don, large, RM19,80
Hmn ... I thought it was a small bowl, even though we ordered ours large. The beef on rice was delicious, however, I liked the taste of the gravy and the tender slices of beef.

Green Tea Soba or Cha Soba, RM8.80
I also enjoyed the cold soba, which was refreshing ... yummy ....

Tempura Moriwase, RM10.80
Mom enjoyed the deep-fried vegetables and the light batter. She would be also emulating this soon.

Despite the crowd, dinner was fun. We were able to savour our food slowly with no one rushing us, even though there was a queue outside the entrance. This would be Mom and Dad's first foray into Japanese cuisine and also Berry's first visit to a Japanese restaurant, even though he was not able to eat. Lols. But he was a good, good boy and he was well-behaved throughout our meal. Thanks to Bro and Sil for the treat!
