Steamboat @ Hoong Kee Seafood Noodle House

It was drizzling, and we needed something hot and soupy to warm the stomach. Steamboat was the best thing to eat for dinner on that cold rainy night, and we headed to Hoong Kee Seafood Noodle House @ Taman Maluri, Cheras.

It was about 8.00 p.m. and just about all the tables were taken. On each table sits a gas stove with a pot on it.

We ordered a mixed pot of stock (鸳鸯), so one half of the pot was a clear broth and the other half was a tomyum flavoured soup.

Then came two large platters, filled with items for cooking.

There were lots of bean curd and fish paste products, prawns, wantons, dumplings, meatballs, mushrooms and vegetables. The fish paste products came in various shapes and sizes - there were strips that resemble noodles, balls, and rolls too.

Another plate came with 2 pieces of yee noodle cakes 伊面, rice vermicelli and 3 eggs.

We threw in most of the stuff and waited for the soups to boil, and then it was time to eat.

Well, of the two types of broth, I preferred the clear soup to the tomyum soup. The clear stock was rich and sweet, and compared to it, the tomyum soup tasted artificial.

The ingredients were fresh too. The fish paste products were all quite fresh and bouncy. Of all the ingredients, however, I liked the dumplings the most. They were real yum. If I ever eat here again next time, I'd order an extra plate of dumplings for my hotpot.

There was a container of chilli belacan sauce on the table, and you could help yourself to as much of the condiment as you wanted. The soups were also added to the existing pot if they were running low.

For the 3 of us and with 3 water chestnut drink, we paid RM50.40. Well, in my opinion, it's quite reasonable.

After dinner, it was to Jusco Maluri to walk off the food. Lol.
