It was my first time flying long distance on a budget airline, and hence I sort of agonised the long hours of being cooped up in a small plane seat with nothing to do. Perhaps because I was so pessimistic about the long journey, the flight turned out better than I had expected.
The plane was an Airbus A330-300. I was seated at 32G. It was an aisle seat in the middle row. But the great thing was that it was not a full flight, and there were 3 seats to share between the two of us in that row. Besides, leg space was sufficient. As a result, I got comfy in no time.
Other than 2 pre-booked Asian meals, I did not purchase anything else from the airline. Hence, there was no blanket nor in-flight entertainment for me. It was rather cold onboard and my cardigan and scarf could hardly keep me warm.
I got my first meal at 1.30 a.m. Malaysian time. What an ungodly hour to eat, right? A pre-booked meal set comprised of a Nasi Lemak and a bottle of mineral water.
Well, the Nasi Lemak was quite yum, with piquant spicy sambal. I appreciated that the anchovies and peanuts were served separately so they remained crunchy. The chicken rendang was tender and flavourful. I really had no complaints whatsoever except that I was really sleepy to enjoy the meal. My eyelids felt like a ton and I could literally doze off while eating. Lol.
Time passed by really quickly because I slept on and off till about 5.30 a.m. in the morning. I got my breakfast at around 7.30 a.m. Again, there was a main dish and a bottle of mineral water. Breakfast was Chicken Briyani. It had spiced long grain basmati rice which was cooked to perfection, and garnished with parsley. I do like the freshness that the herb brought to the heavily spiced rice. The curried boneless thigh fillets were buried in the rice. Overall, it was quite yum except that it seemed too heavy and spicy a meal to eat so early in the morning.

Our flight finally landed at 9.55 a.m. Malaysian time or 1.55 p.m. New Zealand time. Going through the immigration was rather tedious as the New Zealand Customs were rather stringent. Our bags were checked and even when we did not have anything to declare, our bags were scanned.
Excitedly, we went out of the Christchurch Airport to get our first taste of the cold winter climate!

We were picked up by our car rental company to its office. After all paper work was done, off we drove our Nissan Latio to our first destination, Lake Tekapo!!
