Good Bye Bario

On the third day, we spent the morning packing our things. We were only allowed a 10-kg baggage to check in. The rest, we had to carry with us into the plane. Of course, packing was no easy task, especially when we wanted to bring back so many things back. There were salt, rice, pineapples, and even wild boar meat!

We had breakfast as early as 6.00 a.m .....

So much food, leftover from the night before ...

My colleague made this ....

He called it "tumpi", made from flour, water, margerine and then deep-fried. I had never eaten anything like this before. The puffed up pastry and its chewy texture reminded me of the Indian puri, though.

Besides the leftovers, our hostess cooked for this this fried rice ....

Fried rice with leeks and pineapple
It was a very interesting combination, and it tasted really good too! I had certainly never had these 2 ingredients in my fried rice before.

My favourite item of the morning!! This was grated tapioca, shaped into balls and then deep-fried. The texture was amazing! The crust of each piece was really crunchy and crispy, and yet the shreds of the tapioca inside were great to chew on as well.

Of course there were more pineapples too!!

After breakfast, we proceeded to the airport. Then, we had to take turns to step onto the weighing scale. We were only allowed 10kg to check-in. Afterwhich, every kilogramme would be charged RM4.00. We also had to weigh ourselves with our hand luggages .... no charge for passengers even if he or she weighs 100 kg. Lol.

We were quite early .... as our planes had not even arrived yet. So we sat in the cafeteria adjacent to the airport, and chatted away .... Some of my colleagues helped themselves to the kelupis on the table ...

Kelupis

Freshly made glutinous rice steamed in leaf ... very fragrant and delicious

Some even did last minute shopping ....

Local ground cinnamon

 Tenem seeds
These seeds were very fragrant - spicy, refreshing, minty; A few seeds in a cup of tea was good to repel wind from the body.

Soon, our plane arrived .....

Twin Otter

We boarded and departed, right on time. I had enjoyed the trip much. I want to come back. When, AN?
