Interesting Sights : From The Durian To The Fountain

I went to Singapore after a lapse of many years. Well, I love Singapore. Everything there is ultra modern and efficient and clean.

This time around, I was lucky to be able to engage an experienced tour guide - my youngest aunt, A****** ;) . She just took up driving, and it was more convenient for her to ferry us around during the off-peak hours.

Aunt managed to bring us to many places during our duration of stay in Singapore. Additionally, the weather was very co-operative throughout the few days we were in Singapore - cloudy, downcast and not blazing hot. Aunt said had we gone to Singapore one week earlier, we would be cooped up at home because of the heavy torrential downpour!

We went to the Esplanade, Theatres on the Bay. It is a centre for performing arts in Singapore. I wish I could catch a show there - either a play or a concert.

The Esplanade is known fondly as The Durian, obviously as its shape is akin to that of a durian fruit.

At the Esplanade Concourse was a visual arts display named "Beautiful Peripherals" by local artist Khiew Huey Chian. Very interesting, indeed.

Not many people know of the rooftop terrace on the fourth floor. We could catch the panaroma of the Singapore skyline from there.

A walk down the bay led to the Boat Quay area. The Cavenagh Bridge is the only suspension bridge and one of the oldest bridges in Singapore. No heavy vehicles, horses and cattle were allowed to cross the bridge in the past.

I loved the interesting sculptural works which littered the promenade.

Of course, a visit to Singapore would not be complete without taking a snapshot of the Merlion, standing graciously at the mouth of the Singapore River.

Thereafter it was only a short walk to Suntec City, where the largest fountain in the world is located.

A sign states some things you can do to gain good luck. ;)

To believe it or not?

However, I did not give it a try. Too bad, eh?

Well, the walk around the attractions of Singapore is rather fun. I enjoyed myself tremendously. Thanks, Aunt A******! You make a super tour guide!
